The meaning of "tonzauber"

"Tonzauber" is put together from the German word "ton" which means "sound", and "zauber", which translates to "magic". Our aim during the process of recording is to conserve the music's magic, which is often found in live concerts, but absent in records or broadcasts.

Since its foundation in 1998, tonzauber has been responsible for a number of national and international recordings and releases.
But tonzauber is not only a company; tonzauber is also a team of people who make good sound happen. 

Georg Burdicek, Recording Engineer

Georg Burdicek is the original founder of tonzauber. He is often characterized as patient, good-natured and reliable. Martin Saini, Recording Engineer

During the past years, Martin Saini has become a core member of the tonzauber family. In addition to his engineering skills, Martin is also an active musician playing the oboe.
With his creative yet logical way of thinking, he always comes up with good solutions for even the most difficult situations.



Karl Michael Slavik, Coding-Specialist

Karl Michael Slavik was trained as an engineer in telecommunications and was responsible for the introduction of Dolby Digital and Dolby E at Austria's national broadcaster ORF. Since 2005, he has worked as a writer, trainer and consultant. He holds chairs at the ARD.ZDF.Medienakademie, FH St. Pölten and University of Vienna.


Gottfried Zawichowski, Producer

Gottfried Zawichowski is a real multitalent: producer, engineer, music scientist, conductor and Master of Economics. Of course, he also leads a choir and regularly conducts larger ensembles.

Edwin Hausl, Producer

Edwin Hausl is one of the doyens of recording. With over 50 years of musical experience, he works with pragmatism and know-how. His references are too long to be listed here, but include sessions with Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm and Leonard Bernstein.

Reinhold Rieger, Recording Engineer and Producer

Reinhold Rieger, a lecturer at Vienna's University for Music and Performing Arts, is well known for his string-quartet and chamber-music productions. His references include many recordings with world famous ensembles which were often honoured with international awards.
